Every ninth-grade English I student will be in a PAP course. The purpose of English I PAP will be to develop language skills, reading skills, and writing skills. This course builds the foundation for the next three years of language arts at Lufkin High School.
Major assignments are weighted as 60% of the course grade and daily assignments are weighted as 40% of the course grade. Students will be told if an assignment is daily or major when the work is assigned.
Daily Assignments: Accepted one day late – 80% Maximum; Accepted 2+ days late until the end
of the 3-week period – 50%
Major Assignments: Accepted one day – 85%; Accepted 2 days late – 75%; Accepted three days
late – 65%; Accepted 4+ days late until the end of the three-week grading period – 50%
When an English I PAP student misses class for any reason, it is his or her responsibility to ask about missed work and/or assignments.
Major assignments: must be made up at school within one week of the absence.
Daily Assignments: Students will be given one day for each day missed to complete and return daily assignments missed due to absences.
It is not the responsibility of the teacher to remind students of missing work and/or assignments. Any missing assignments will be recorded in the grade book as a zero until made up by the student. For example, if a student misses one day, he will have 1 day upon his return to make up the assignment.
